Sandy Beaches, bikinis, surfers and big waves! The North Shore of Oahu has never been short on reputation. But is it really all of that? The answer is ‘Yes and more’. During the winter months beaches like Waimea, Sunset and Bonzai Pipeline see some of the most perfectly shaped 30-40 foot waves in the world. Surfers from all over the world come to try to ride them. In a sharp contrast, during the summer months the waters are flat and great for swimming, snorkeling and diving. Also during the summer months, some of the sunsets can be seen on the North Shore beaches.
The little town of Haleiwa is a tourist mecca, with boutique stores, bars and restaurants. But, if outdoor eating is what you prefer, the food trucks are everywhere, serving up fresh fruit smoothies, burgers and fresh Kahuku Prawns.
Properties on the North Shore don’t come cheap, especially beach front. But, you should definitely have an experienced Realtor on your side, because many of the beach front homes get threatened by the big surf. Home owners insurance isn’t cheap either, if you can get it.

Welcome to Honolulu, Hawaii
The Hawaiian Islands are the most remote land mass in the world. Our closest neighboring land mass is San Francisco, at 2,339 miles. Hawaii became part of the United States, as the 50th state, in August of 1959. You will most likely find locals correcting you, when you say, "Back in the States...", since we are also a state.
The islands of Hawaii consist of 8 islands, 2 of which you can not visit. Kahoolawe, off Maui, is off limits, as it was used by the military for many years for bombing practice and still has some unexploded ordinances. The other island is Niihau, which was purchased by the Robinson family and used as a Hawaiian life preserve. One can only visit that island, under special invitation.
